I remember back when I was just a teenager walking around South Coast Plaza. I saw a huge picture of Takeshi Kaneshiro in a store window, posing as the new face for an iconic fashion brand. Right then a flicker of thought flashed in my head... How cool would it be to represent such a massive brand. But I quickly dismissed that thought soon after... I mean after all, I was this chubby Asian kid living in Orange County and with that combo alone you def got a lot of bullying. However fast forward to Aug 7th 2019. I find myself in the streets of Tokyo standing in the middle of a bridge above train tracks. With a village of people surrounding me, making sure I look cool af.... That same flicker flashes again, and I realize I’m still that chubby Asian kid from So Cali... only now I’m shooting the new collection for The Grandmaster Yohji Yamamoto’s BLACK SCANDAL campaign on the day of my birthday no less... Things like this dont just happen to a guy like me... but when it does better be damn sure I take it all with an attitude of gratitude. Whilst taking nothing for granted...
