The image has become a symbol for the primeval qualities of Botswana’s wilderness and the grandeur of elephants. I share it in recognition of World Elephant Day, August 12, to celebrate the majesty of elephants and to draw attention to the organizations that have forged a strong coalition aimed at reversing the poaching crisis that has decimated elephant populations almost everywhere.
