@jasonbhouston as part of our ongoing #EyeOnClimate series—a campaign dedicated to raising awareness of climate change impacts and solutions around the @UnitedNations’ Annual Meeting on Climate Change, #COP23. "Because of unpredictable flow levels and more and more rapid changes in the river courses, river travel, which is essential for regional trade around Puerto Breu, Peru, is becoming increasingly difficult. Human habitation of the Amazon can be traced back over 10,000 years, and over that time the indigenous tribes who live there have become intimately adapted to the predictable, well-established seasonality that defines these forests. The effects and impacts of #climatechange including rising temperatures and unstable hydrological cycles is leading to a laundry list of threats to those living in the Amazon, including more frequent drought, decreasing fish stocks, increasing prevalence of malaria and other diseases, crop failures, and forest fire.” -@jasonbhouston
