#Regram #RG @guardian: More than 66 people have been killed and thousands more forced to evacuate their homes following Peru’s worst floods in recent memory. The disaster – which came after a period of severe drought – has been blamed on abnormally high temperatures in the Pacific Ocean, and fuelled criticism that the country is ill-prepared for the growing challenges of climate change. #Regram #RG @na******eotravel: Photo by @michaelmelford Our last stop in South Georgia was at Nordensjjold glacier. Want to feel small? Just visit this glacier that is a mile and a half along it's front. Two zodiacs give it some scale. Glaciers are "rivers of ice" that start as snow way up in the mountains and over years accumulate, and get packed and become ice that flows downhill. By the time the ice gets to the sea to the sea, it can be over a thousand years old! Most of the glaciers of the world are getting smaller, both in height and length, with some retreating at an alarming rate. Could this be a result of carbon emissions and climate change? Research and find out for yourself so it is not fake news! #na******eoexpeditions #glacier #southgeorgia #travel #photography #climatechange

#Regram #RG @sierraclub: Yesterday's emergency rally at the White House sent a message to Donald Trump: we will not stand for his executive order that will weaken the Clean Power Plan (#CPP). #Resist Trump and Scott Pruitt are attempting to undermine the progress we've made on climate change and public health with executive orders and proposed #EPA budget cuts. Send EPA Admin Scott Pruitt a message at sc.org/defendourfuture demanding the Clean Power Plan be kept in place or replaced with something that reduces carbon emissions even more!

Some of the world's top scientists just released a bold new approach to tackle #climatechange. It's called the "#CarbonLaw" and it shows that if governments, businesses and individuals cut our carbon emissions in half every decade, we can stay under the climate danger zone of 2 degrees C in global temperature rise. #Regram #RG @everydayclimatechange: Image by @sean_gallagher_photo A young boy pushes himself along the shallows of the Ganges River in Kolkata --- Coastal cities in India, such as Kolkata and Mumbai, have been identified as some of the most at risk to climate change effects, such as rising sea levels. In late 2016 however, Kolkata was named as one of the 11 best cities in the world for addressing the effects of climate change at the C40 Mayor's Summit in Mexico City. "Kolkata’s climate change risks have been exacerbated by unsanitary disposal and waste dumping...[The city's] project aims to eradicate open dumping and burning of waste and to limit the concentration of methane gas generated in landfill sites", according to National Geographic News. A promising step for one of the world's most vulnerable cities. --- #asia #india #kolkata #ganges #river #climatechange #water

#Regram #RG @virunganationalpark: In 6 weeks, Virunga's Chief Warden, @emmanueldemerode is running the @londonmarathon with the aim of raising $1 million for the families of fallen rangers. The job of Virunga National Park ranger is one of the most dangerous in conservation, over 150 rangers have been killed in the line of duty. We have an ambitious target to meet, and we will need the support of our amazing #virunga community to do it! Please click the link in our bio to read more and to support Emmanuel's campaign. Every donation is being matched by a generous donor, so this is a fantastic opportunity to contribute to the future of Virunga in an amazing way! #gorillas #wildlifephotography #virunganationalpark #unescoworldheritagesite #conservation #wildife #animals

#Regram #RG @oceana: Yesterday, in light of President Trump's #skinnybudget, Oceana said severe funding cuts could cripple key agencies. We call on Congress to reject President Trump's proposed budget. Jacqueline Savitz, Oceana's Senior Vice President for U.S. Oceans and Global Fishing Watch, said "Funding cuts of this magnitude could cripple key agencies like NOAA and the Coast Guard, which would be devastating to decades of ocean conservation." #Regram #RG @rainforestalliance: Scott Pruitt’s remarks today are dangerous. Drought. Flood. Economic insecurity. Famine. For farming and forest communities around the world, the impacts of climate change are already very real. Forests capture greenhouse gases, preventing them from accumulating in the atmosphere and warming our planet. Deforestation on its own causes about 10 percent of worldwide emissions. Now more than ever, it is important to protect forests and join us in the fight against climate change. Someone’s got to do their job. #RainforestAlliance #ClimateChangeIsReal #PollutingPruitt #EPA #MarchForScience #ForestsResist

(@jassensf) . “Spread over 400 acres, Nevada Solar One is a massive project built in the hot, dry desert just south of Las Vegas. The plant uses 760 parabolic trough concentrators with more than 182,000 mirrors that concentrate the sun’s rays onto more than 18,240 receiver tubes. Every year, the projected amount of CO2 emissions this plant avoids putting into the atmosphere is equivalent to taking approximately 20,000 cars off the road,” writes Your Shot photographer Jassen T. “It is a refreshing site to look at — I can’t wait to fly a solar-powered aircraft one day.” -- Join @na******eo in our The People vs. Climate Change initiative and use #MyClimateAction to share a first-person perspective on how we as humans are taking the positive steps we’re taking to protect the Earth.

#Regram #RG @nasaclimatechange: Sea ice helps maintain Earth's temperature, so predicting how the ice extent (a measurement of the area of ocean where there is at least some sea ice) might change helps us understand our warming climate.
